ABOUT KAYANOKI

The Kaya is an evergreen conifer of the genus Torreya of the family Yew. The growth of a Kaya tree is extremely slow, and it takes more than 300 years to reach a diameter of 1 meter. The Sendai Yagyu Kaya tree has more than 1,300 years of history, and is considered to be the oldest tree in Sendai City. In the past, it has been said that the Buddha statue, Yakushi Ruriko Nyorai has been found in its roots, and it has been enshrined since then. Even now, after more than 1,300 years, its life force has not weakened, and every autumn, it bears and drops countless Kaya fruits, and is looking over the chilrdren and everyone in the area trying to seek good fortune.
